At the regular board meeting held tonight and effective January 1, 2020, the Prattsburgh Central School Board of Education unanimously appointed Mr. Kory Bay of Naples, New York as the next superintendent and business administrator of the Prattsburgh Central School District. Mr. Bay agreed to a five-year contract of service.
Mr. Bay began his career in education in 1998 in Waterloo where he taught elementary classes. Mr. Bay came to the Prattsburgh Central School district in 2001 and has served in several capacities including elementary teacher, athletic director, principal, district treasurer, and assistant superintendent. Mr. Bay holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Roberts Wesleyan College, a master’s degree in education from Elmira College, and a certificate of advanced study in educational administration from SUNY Oswego.
The board reappointed Mrs. Erin Peck, current PreK-12 principal, to the position of grades 6-12 principal effective upon the future appointment of a PreK-5 principal. The district will immediately begin a search for a PreK-5 principal.
The board accepted the resignation for the purpose of retirement from Dr. Jeffrey Black as superintendent and business administrator effective December 31, 2019. Dr. Black has been in public education since 1988 first as an elementary teacher at the Elmira City School District and then in the Lansing Central School District. Dr. Black came to Prattsburgh Central School in the spring of 1992 as PreK-12 school counselor and CSE chairperson. After eight years in those positions, Dr. Black was appointed as assistant superintendent and PreK-12 principal and served in that capacity for three years until the retirement of James McCormick, when he was named superintendent and business administrator. Dr. Black served in that capacity for 6 years, then served as business administrator and treasurer until the departure of Joseph Rumsey in January of 2013, when he again served as superintendent and business administrator.
The board appointed Dr. Black to the position of part-time district treasurer effective January 2020. Dr. Black will also continue to serve as the executive director of the Greater Southern Tier BOCES School Boards Association.
